Miracles from Heaven is a 2016 American Christian drama film directed by Patricia Riggen and written by Randy Brown, based on the memoir of the same name by Christy Beam. The film tells the true story of the Beam family and the miraculous healing journey of their young daughter, Annabel Beam.
Plot details
The film takes place in Burleson, Texas, from 2007 to 2011. The Beam family consists of Christy and Kevin and their three daughters: Abby, Anna, and Adelynn. They live a peaceful life and are actively involved in their local church community.
One day, Anna begins to vomit continuously and has severe abdominal pain. After numerous medical visits that failed to find the cause, Anna was finally diagnosed with pseudo-intestinal motility disorder, a rare condition that left her unable to digest food and requiring a feeding tube.
Christy, her resilient mother, decided to take Anna to Boston Children's Hospital to seek help from top doctor Samuel Nurko. There, they met Angela, a kind local resident who supported them through their difficult time. Fortunately, Anna was examined by Dr. Nurko through an unexpected appointment.
During her treatment, Anna befriended Hayley, a terminal cancer patient. This friendship helped Anna find faith and hope. However, Anna still suffered a lot of pain and even wished for death to be free of the pain.
One day, while playing with her sister in an old cotton tree, Anna fell into the hollow trunk and became trapped. After several hours of rescue, she was brought out with only minor injuries. Miraculously, after the accident, Anna's symptoms disappeared completely. She said that while she was trapped, she went to heaven and was healed by God.
The Beam family returns to church, where Christy shares the story of her daughter's miracle. Although there are skeptics, many, including Hayley's father, believe their story. The film ends with Anna healthy and the Beam family enjoying a new life filled with hope.
